Trapped

@ KSOPORTI ART WEEKEND PAPHOS 2024 from May 31st to June 2nd 2024 in Paphos.

The fourth edition of Ksoporti Art Weekend that composed the art scene of Paphos. where art enthusiasts were invited to immerse themselves in dynamic explorations of local visual art.

As part of the parallel events, was a captivating improvisational dance performance.

"Trapped"

The wooden frame structure with colored strings serves as a powerful visual and experiential metaphor for the 'ideal life' box. An omnipresent framework constructed and driven by social regulation and control rather than desire.

The installation illustrates the constraints that collective norms impose on our physical actions, thoughts, and perceptions, conveying the feeling of entrapment that many experience.

Two talented dancers performed within and around the "Trapped" installation, vividly embodying and negotiating matters of struggle and liberation from the plexus of social conventions. Their restricted gestures within the wooden frame box, entwined with colored strings, mirror the fragile, seen or unseen, yet deeply present limitations imposed by societal norms and stereotypes to the wider collective and the self. The dancers’ evolution from constrained to fluid movements creates a powerful narrative of emancipation, adding an open, affective and dynamic layer to the installation.

By engaging with the installation, viewers are invited to reflect on their own experiences and consider the impact of societal expectations on their lives and the lives of others, fostering a deeper understanding, empathy and potential alternatives of personal liberation.
